1.
Being genuine. Children typically only wear "masks" at Halloween.
2.
Taking naps. Remember when you just fell asleep whenever and wherever
it felt good? What a concept!
3.
Being honest. You probably already know that if you want the truth about
something, ask a child. Being very honest is something we did as children,
then likely learned "not to do" for various social reasons. Now as adults
we can practice being honest, but tempered with compassion.
4.
Laughing uncontrollably. When is the last time you laughed so hard your
stomach ached? Or you started giggling and just couldn't stop? And your
best friend started laughing too, and neither one of you could look at the
other without laughing? Go ahead.
5.
Having lots of fun. Spontaneous fun like running (without needing special equipment), flying a kite because it is a windy day, riding
bikes, blowing bubbles, jumping in a mud puddle. As adults we typically
plan fun... kids just have fun!
6.
Experiencing simple pleasures. Perhaps you have been side-tracked by
such things as bill paying, laundry, and meetings, just to name a few. Being
childlike again can open your eyes to the joy in simple things. When was
the last time you slowed down long enough to examine a leaf, or watch an
army of ants busy at work?
7.
Forgiving a friend. How long did you hold a grudge as a child? My guess
would be, not for long. Kids don't have time for such nonsense. Precious
playtime is waiting after all.
8.
Magic time. Children haven't yet been taught not to believe in their
magical thoughts. Wouldn't it feel great to believe once again that anything
is truly possible?
9.
Getting a free cookie. Tell the person at the bakery that you are taking
some time off from behaving like an adult, and you'd like a free cookie.
I did it. It was great. I double dare ya!
10.
Not wanting the day to end. When is the last time you heard a kid say
they couldn't wait until bedtime? Not too often probably. Won't it be a
great feeling to experience such "in the moment" joy that you just don't
want it to ever end?
